a friend of mine recently remarked to another friend that he didnt know there was a difference between being 'in a mood' and being 'upset'. there is a big difference. mainly that if you are in a mood then you arent in your spirit, whereas if you are upset you can be-after all even Jesus got upset! there are also other subtle differences. such as if you are in a mood you dont cry, you shout more, you stop around and generally make a scene. if you are upset, you are more likely to cry, and less likely to make a scene, more likely to sit in a corner. however these differences vary depending on the person involved.

on a slightly different note, anyone got any suggestions of how to apreciate brothers without appearing weird?

You say: 'you are in a mood you dont cry, you shout more, you stomp around and generally make a scene. if you are upset, you are more likely to cry, and less likely to make a scene, more likely to sit in a corner.'

And you also say: '...even Jesus got upset!'

But Jesus shouted. And he certainly made a scene (throwing tables and animals around in the temple). But I don't recall him sitting in the corner. It is true that he cried (when Lazarus died).

So I wonder if it's as simple as that. I certainly agree that there is a difference between being 'upset and still in the Spirit' and 'in a mood in the flesh'.

Perhaps a key difference is whether the motivation is love. Love can be grieved, but it won't feel sorry for itself. Love can shout and love can make a scene. Love can be angry (though it is not easily angered). But love will not vibe others out, sulk, feel hard done by and sorry for itself.

Thanks for a stimulating think first thing in the day, Insightful!

Let's be blunt: Other than that one is external and the other is internal there is little real difference. Subtlely you might argue that one is more sincere/justifiable than the other, but I would say we have more duty to feel what others feel than to be subject to our emotions - now to do that do I have to get in a mood or feel upset?
